An Admission

I freely admit it, I am a junkie on ceremony. Formal weddings, baptisms, military officers taking their oath, and of course the swearing in of the President.

This year, especially, feels very important as we say goodbye to a President who did not care about such things, and welcome a new President. We watch this ceremony as all former Presidents, but 2 (one for health reasons, one by choice) attend.

The Pomp and Circumstance, the tradition, the ceremony…it all brings a tear to my eyes.

I have taken the oath of office, sworn loyalty to the United States and its Constitution, eight times in my life. Each time, speaking for myself, was so important, was so meaningful, and was an event that I still remember, regardless of the years between then and now.

So, again today, I watch the events at the Capitol. It feels different today because of Covid, but it still feels comfortable and special…it is a new beginning for our nation.
